Who we are
Bike Shop Newry is a bicycle retailer operating this website, bikeshopnewry.co.uk. Our shop and returns address is Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. You can contact us about anything in this policy at [email protected].
We decide how and why your personal information is used, which makes us the data controller for it.
What we collect, and why
When you place an order
Your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number, and details of what you bought. We need this to take payment, deliver your bike, and deal with any warranty claim or return. We collect it because we need it to carry out our contract with you.
When you pay
Your card details are typed into a secure payment form provided by Revolut and go directly to them. We never see or store your full card number. We receive only confirmation that the payment succeeded or failed, and the last few digits of the card so we can match it to your order.
When you contact us
The name, email address and message you send us through the contact form or by email, so that we can reply to you. We keep these because we have a legitimate interest in answering and keeping a record of enquiries.
When you create an account or save a wishlist
Your login details and the items you have saved, so that they are there when you come back.
When you simply browse the site
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages people visit and how they found us. This records your approximate location, your device and browser, the pages you look at, and an identifier stored in a cookie on your device. The site is also protected by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to tell real visitors apart from automated attacks.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. This site uses three kinds:
- Essential — remember what is in your basket, keep you signed in, and make checkout work securely. The shop cannot function without these.
- Analytics — Google Analytics, to count visits and see which pages are useful.
- Security — Cloudflare, to protect the site from automated attacks.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block the essential ones, the basket and checkout will not work.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We share it only with the organisations that help us run the shop:
- Revolut — to take card payments
- Google — website analytics
- Cloudflare — website security and performance
- Amazon Web Services — hosting this website, on servers in Ireland
- Our delivery partner — to get your bike to you
- Our accountants, and the Revenue Commissioners — for tax and accounting records, where we are legally required to
Some of these, in particular Google and Cloudflare, may transfer information outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens it is covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or an equivalent legal safeguard.
How long we keep it
- Order and payment records — six years, because Irish tax law requires us to keep them.
- Contact form messages and email enquiries — two years.
- Analytics — 14 months.
- Account details and wishlists — until you ask us to close your account.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- have anything inaccurate corrected
- ask us to delete information where we no longer need it
- object to how we are using it, or ask us to restrict it
- receive your information in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we relied on consent
To do any of these, email us at [email protected]. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission, 6 Pembroke Row, Newry 2, D02 X963 — dataprotection.ie.
